Passive House
PROJECT TYPE: Residential
DATE: August 2019
Passive House (German: Passivhaus) is the leading building standard that is truly energy efficient, comfortable, affordable, and ecological. It is a way of designing buildings to achieve exceptional energy efficiency and superior thermal comfort. Heating and cooling needs are minimized through insulation, high-quality windows, passive solar energy, shading, and the elimination of thermal bridges. It results in an ultra-low energy building that require little energy for space heating or cooling.
Here is a look at the first passive house built in Canada - "Lost Lake PassivHaus". It was built in Whistler for the 2010 Winter Olympics in partnership with The Austria Passive House Group and housed the Austrian Team.
Passive buildings consume up to 90 percent less heating and cooling energy than conventional buildings. These Passive Houses (also know as Passivhaus) are high-quality buildings that provide comfortable, healthy living conditions, designed for our future.
Designed by our friend Craig England, of Passive House 43 Architecture. Bay Beach House is a summer home on the shore of Lake Erie, using expansive south-facing windows and clear-story spaces to create a light, open atmosphere.
